Fish Funeral

We had our first experience with a pet fish. And yes, it ended just about as quickly as it began! Jace won a goldfish at his school's Fall Festival. He was so excited to bring him home. We prefaced the homecoming with the requirement that we were going to take the fish to Granny's pond that weekend because he would live a longer life there than in a bowl on our counter. Nonetheless, he was still so excited. He named the fish THEODORE and took pretty good care of him. For ONE DAY. As you might guess, Theodore didn't make it to the pond. He wasn't looking very good the next day, and by Saturday he was a gonner. Jace kept thinking he was asleep, but, bless his heart, Theodore had gone to Fish Heaven. Soooo...we had the funeral. We all went to the bathroom and gave Theo his last flush. Jace said a nice prayer for him and we sang "Jesus Loves the Little Fishies of the Sea". It was quite moving! But, in all seriousness, Jace was really sweet and it brought out a really tender side of him. My mommy's heart was smiling!
