We lost our last grandfather on June 27, 2009. WOW...all three in less than a year. My "Paw" went to be with the Lord after a long illness. Our family has lost such a wonderful man. He was so many things to so many people: son, brother, brother-in-law, dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend. He never met a stranger, and those that knew him had their lives touched by him. He would never, never, never hesitate to help if you needed help. We often said he was alot like Grandpa Truett...he knew how everything worked and could fix just about anything. He was quite the handyman and fixed just about everyone's air-conditioner at one point or another, made a gazillion wooden spoons, and made world-famous homemade jelly. The last few years he got really good at homemade gumbo too! It always seemed as if there wasn't anything that he couldn't do. We look around our homes and his hand is in so many things...a homemade wooden swing on the porch, wooden toys in my son's room, my pantry full of homemade jelly. The list goes on and on. Another thing that he was famous for is his cayenne pepper. He ALWAYS had cayenne pepper...even carried a small shaker in his pocket for restaurants!!! He attributed his long life and good health to the benefits of cayenne pepper. You knew Morris, you knew about the benefits of cayenne pepper! Most importantly, he loved life, loved his family, and loved Jesus with all his heart.
The last thing he said to me when we left at Thanksgiving and were driving home was, "Be careful, and take care of those babies. But you know, you will always be MY baby." Yes I will, and I will miss him forever.
